……….Prayerfully look at the list and see which of these idols are in your heart. Be true and honest with yourself and get rid of that monster ‘SELF LIFE’ in you :
01) Ingratitude to God.
02) Ingratitude to parents.
03)Ingratitude to Spiritual leadership.
04) Ingratitude to employer.
05) Ingratitude to employees.
06) Love for ease.
07) Love of sleep.
209) A fear of God’s presence that results in an incapacity to
sustain a long period of intercourse with God.
210) Discouragements.

To this list of idols, the Lord says: If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me(Matt16:24) Remember apostle Peter because of an idol of the heart for Love for his life, denied the Lord three times. While Moses because of ancestral idol of anger, failed in his call. Moses was born in the house of Levi cursed with anger (Genesis 49:5-7,Exodus 2:1-13).

God told Abraham: Any uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin shall be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant ( Genesis 17:14).

When we come to the Lord our grave cloths must be taken off (ancestral and personnel bonds). When the Lord gave life to Lazarus, He ordered for his grave cloths to be taken off  and set free (John 11:41-44).

This is what we are supposed to do when we move from death to life believing in Christ. Unfortunately we never go through this unbinding process from grave cloths (deliverance and heart circumcision), and then remain bound by them. (This will be handled in details in another book, because it is the basic fundamental foundation for a new life growth in Christ). This respectful servant of the Lord Prof. Zacharias Tanee Fomun in his exhortations advice that:

The first step towards an idol- free heart is the identification of the idol. Say to God. My lord, I identify the following idols in my heart, if there are some others that are not on the list, show them to me and I will include them on the list of idols that are on my heart.

The second step towards an idol-free heart is to hate the idol. Ask and keep asking the Lord to give you His hatred for the idol. When you receive God’s hatred for the idol, overthrow the idol from your heart once and for all. Only when what is loved is hated, can deliverance take place. As soon as the idol is overthrown, build a hedge around your heart from further entry. Do this with each idol until all of them have been overthrown. Th en you seek and receive confirmation from the Lord that you have parted with all the idols in your heart.

The third step towards an idol-free heart is to lay your idol -free heart on the altar of irreversible, radical, and total consecration to the Lord. Pray saying, “My Lord, I lay my heart, soul and body on your alter now and forever.” It is yours. It will always be yours. It will never be mine again come sun or come rain. I also lay on your alter for your possession and for your service, all that I am, all that I have, all that I will ever be; and all that I will ever have. I am yours 100percent in every way and for ever. Do with me, as it seems good to you.

The fourth step towards an idol free heart is to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Ask to be filled afresh with the Holy Spirit.

The last step towards an idol-free life is to be committed to righteousness. Before, you planned sin and committed sin. Now, do all you can to take the entire Gospel of Jesus Christ to the largest number of people in the shortest possible time. Go on with that job until Jesus comes back. Any one who thinks that he has turn to the Lord but is still consciously keeping idols in his heart, is a lost sinner.

In order to become God’s people, God told Abraham, our father of faith:

“ This is my covenant, which you shall keep between me and you and your descendants after you: Every male among you shall be circumcised. You shall be circumcised in the Flesh of your foreskin” (Genesis 17:10-11). Who were those to be circumcised? It is written: “Both he that is born in your house and he that is bought with your money Shall be circumcised”( Vs 12-13).

This, pointing to spiritual circumcision of our ‘flesh’, which is no longer, the physical foreskin, but our heart.

The Bible talks of the circumcision of Abraham our father of faith in these terms : He received circumcision as a sign or seal of the righteous which he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised … but also followed the example of the faith which our father Abraham had before he was circumcised(Romans 4:11-12).

Therefore, as Abraham believed in the Lord before circumcision of his foreskin, so too are we to believe in Christ before circumcision of our hearts from idols. Consequently, today it does not just suffice to be a new born being bought by the blood of Christ. The most important thing is to be circumcised in heart from idols by the Holy Spirit.

With regards redemption, we have all been born and bought by God through the blood of Christ, but if our hearts are not circumcised, we cannot part-take in the testimony of God’s people. God told Abraham: Any uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin shall be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant( Vs 14).

Therefore, all those who were not circumcised, were to be cut off from God’s people. Linking this to testimony, it means the entire uncircumcised in heart can never be an instrument for God’s testimony. Thus, a man can well be bought by the blood of Christ and have life but if he is not circumcised and his natural life passed through the cross, he can never be a member of God’s people (member of Christ’s Body); and consequently be cut off . The Lord further emphasize the necessity of circumcision saying:

For he is not a real Jew who is one outwardly, nor is true circumcision some thing external and physical. He is a Jew who is one inwardly, and real circumcision is a matter of the heart, Spiritual and not literal (Romans2:28-29).

And the Lord your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your o spring, so that you will love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live (Deuteronomy 30: 6).

For some illustration, one can take the text of Galatians 5: 16 that says:

"This I say then, walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. Fort he flesh lusted against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh … Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these, Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, hatred, anger, strife, heresies … (all idols of the heart). But the fruit of the Spirit is Love, joy, peace, long-suering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance..(Galatians 5:16-23 king James Version).

With this text , I carefully handle one idol of the heart after another, as already mentioned by overthrowing it from my heart( i.e I pray it out of my spirit ).

After this heart circumcision from idols by the Holy Spirit which sometimes is very “painful”, I then pray into my spirit, the fruits of the spirit. For Example: I pray into my spirit, the fruits of the Holy Spirit of: Love, gentleness, joy, peace, and long-sffering which is not suffering because of sins, but for the Lord’s service.

This cancels the modern preaching of carnal comfort in the service of the Lord. We must note that the Holy Spirit we have been baptized with from God constitutes all spiritual blessings from God. After the cleansing of our spirit from the works of the flesh, we then pray the flow of His fruits into our own spirit so that through our spirit, we can then experience them materializing in our lives from the invisible to the visible.

The human spirit is the channel through which God’s Holy Spirit in us flows the character of Christ through us. We can have the Holy Spirit dwelling in our spirit but not being able to flow through our unbroken or uncircumcised spirit outwardly to our bodies, the fruits of the Spirit. With spiritual gifts of the Holy Spirit for ministration, we pray them to manifest in our ministry. God then through the channel of His Holy Spirit dwelling in us, manifest them in the measure that He likes with regards to what He wants to use us to do.

At times therefore, He may by-pass the nature of dirtiness of our spirit and overflow through His Holy Spirit to carry out some works of healing, to cast out demons, to operate miracles and wonders etc …..

This will justify what He says in Matthew 7: 2123 that: Not every one who calls me Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only those who do what my Father in heaven wants them to do … … In your name we drove out demons and perform many miracles! Then I will say to them, I never knew you, Get away from me, you wicked people.

As believers, we must understand God’s functioning principles with the Holy Spirit and us, so as not to confuse the whole notion of salvation by grace in Jesus Christ.

When the Holy Spirit comes into us, His first task is to circumcise or breakdown our spirit from idols, so as to be able to flow through it. When we talk of the heart of a man, we do not mean the biological physical heart but the human spirit, because the heart of a man is it’s dwelling place. But He can not do it without our collaboration.

Therefore, a person who denies to collaborate with the Holy Spirit in praying for exposition of the heart’s idols, and overthrow them, will still keep the nature of the devil(flesh). And if so, then we don’t see how such a person will enter the kingdom of God with just his mere confession of being saved by grace in Jesus Christ.

This, since the Bible clearly says: Do not fool yourselves people who are immoral or worship idols, adulterers, greedy, steal, slanders… none of these will possess the kingdom of God(1st Corinthians 6:9-11). It is therefore very clear that, no uncircumcised heart can serve and please God.

The circumcision of our hearts from idols, raises us as one with the Lord. Being already one with God the Holy Spirit automatically makes us one with one another through Him. Yes , because we cannot become one with another fellow believer, without first becoming one with God since it is through God that we become spiritually one with another.

So, it is vertically with God first, then horizontally with man. When we have spiritually been united by Christ to be one, then denominational barriers will automatically fall o , as well as the spirit of egoism amongst believers, for the text of Acts 4:32-35 to be experienced.

The Bible says: Sanctify them in the truth; thy word is truth. As thou didst send me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. And for their sake I consecrated in truth. I do not pray for these only, but also for those who believe in me through their word, that they may all be one; even as thou Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that thou hast sent me( John 17:17-23 KJV).

Could the lack of oneness of believers, who today are caught up in factional denominational doctrinal systems and greed, not be the reasons why the world is not still believing that God sent Christ for the salvation of humanity? Certainly it is!

The greatest problem of believers today is the absence of an established vertical relationship with God. If our object of faith is Christ, then we must personally as individuals know Him. We must personally have a revelation of Him. For it is impossible to trust (have faith) in our object (Christ) that we do not know.

We must therefore, first know our object of faith (Jesus Christ), before pretending to love, obey and serve Him as it is written: That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him, having the eyes of your heart enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you.. (Ephesians 1:17-23).

To say we are loving and obeying somebody we do not personally know is falsehood and just Works of the Law. This knowledge of our object of faith (Christ) called vertical relationship begins with service in His immediate presence. Faith is intimately linked to revelation which is inseparable from a very close movement with the Lord and obedience to His Word.

Worshiping an unknown God is false worship, and a mere waste of time. Believers worshiping an unknown God, have their origin of worship either from:

1) The soul, with origin from the will, mind, and emotion.

2) The body, with origin from the mind, will, and emotion and the overflows to the body and is manifested in the bones, muscles, blood  etc.

3)  The human spirit, with origin from the human spirit fl owing to soul, then to body. He may thus be very sincere in false worship and sowing; and have his human spirit flow to a God he does not know. This may go on for years without him confronting the reality. His Love, giving of offerings, tithes and even sacriffices of his life to an unknown God becomes folly. Yes, because false worship is initiated either by the devil for his glory, or the human spirit for the “ self ”.

The worshiping of a known God is true worship with origin from the Holy Spirit. As such, the Holy Spirit moves the human spirit to worship God in response to a true revelation of His personality. Therefore, true worshipers will worship God in spirit and truth (John 4:23).

The Holy Spirit initiates true worship and sowing, which then flows to the human spirit, then the soul, and finally through the body. It is indispensable to know God our object of worship. We are not talking here of a mental or theoretical understanding of the truth about God. Until the Lord personally reveals Himself to us, we will not know Him.

Repentance from sins, deliverance, water baptism ( immersion), Holy Spirit Baptism, speaking in tongues, Evangelisation, healing, worshiping, praising, sanctifying the Sabbath, eating the clean, giving of tithes and oerings, wearing of head scarf , descent attire, dedication and consecration, prayers, fasting, Spiritual gifts, etc, are good indeed. Yes, but as good as they are, they are not the end to everything, but just the means to knowing God.

Knowing God is beyond all these. It is the fundamental. It is from here that real Christian life and service in the Lord begins. Because it is only in God that we must have confidence and not in the means which are just things to help us reach the end.

Apostle Paul knew this such that he kept praying on behalf of the Saints that they may know God as the Bible says: I remember you in my prayers, and ask the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious father to give you the spirit who will make you wise and reveal God to you, so that you will know Him ( Ephesians 1:16-17).

Settling on the means as the end of everything is often the origin of denominations and spiritual immaturity. People create denominations on the means to knowing God and end there, and as consequence never know God. Believers settle on the means of knowing God and so remain spiritually immature, and this greatly aects their communion with other members of the body of Christ.

When you build your house on the road leading to heaven, and settle there, will you ever enter heaven ? Certainly not! Because you have come to the end of your journey. You needed to have gone through the road, and until you enter heaven rather than settling on the road leading to heaven. We must make sure not to settle on any least point ( means), to be our end of everything.

We may be born again not sinning and giving into service to the Lord, but yet not know Him. It is said of Samuel: Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, and the word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him (1st Samuel 3:7-7). Samuel from birth was separated unto the Lord, and grew sleeping in his presence as written:

“And Samuel was lying down within the temple of the Lord , where the ark of God was”vs3, but never knew the Lord. Yes, he was actually consecrated to God, but never knew Him until He revealed Himself to him.

Do we now see the possibilities of being ‘a born again’ serving, worshiping and giving gifts to an unknown God? We must, like Samuel, seek for his revelation until he thus reveal Himself to us and continue to do so.

We must note that our growth in the knowledge of God which is very much determined by the frequency, intensity, and duration of our encounters with Him, is greatly obstructed or hampered by our seeking of the secondary to the primary .

One prominent servant of the Lord recounts that, when God appoints a person to carry out a certain distinctive ministry, the first thing that He does is not to give that ministry to the person. That one must know God first. He must have God revealed to him at the personal level. Not until God has been thus revealed to him can God reveal the ministry to which He is calling him.

He reiterates that, it is fundamental that this personal revelation of God must precede the revelation of the Ministry. There are unfortunately, he narrates, those who think that they have been sent out by a God they do not know to carry out some special work for Him. Th is is total folly. Paul said: When it pleased Him to reveal His son to me in order that I might preach him among the Gentiles(Galatians 1:15).

First of all, a revelation of the son to him ; and secondly, his preaching Him among the gentiles. Knowing God before service is a must! We must come to a point of knowing God that:

• We will no longer mistake our voice or those of others to that of God.

• Satan’s voice to that of God, etcetera.

Brethren, we are talking from a point of hard learned practical experience.

Before attaining the little knowledge of God I claim today, I suered much under the whims and caprices of my voice, those of others, and that of the devil. These manipulations I believe, were some lessons in the school of knowing God. Today, I know the dierences better, and can confess not with my lips but in spirit and truth that:

Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light (2nd Corinthians 11:14). And again that : “Nothing clean can come from anything as unclean as man(Job 14:4). Yes, the Bible says clearly: For I know that nothing good dwells within me, that is, in my flesh (Romans 7:18-25).

Once more, let us ask ourselves this question: Do we know our object of Faith, Christ personally? From an established vertical relationship between man and God through the Holy Spirit, then flows the horizontal relationship of man to man.

Therefore, any established man-to-man horizontal relationship without a connection to God (vertical) is useless. In relation to the Bible, it will just be a flow of Biblical doctrines through the works of the flesh from man to man rather than a flow of the word of God as a way of life through the Holy Spirit. This resulting from a spiritually established vertical relationship as it is written:

“… not in a written code but in the Spirit; for the written code kills, but the Spirit gives life … “(2nd Corinth 3: 6).

This is the greatest reason of the Church going astray today.

Therefore, life through the Holy Spirit based on an established vertical relationship with God must be first to Biblical doctrines. The reverse of this order will just be the works of the flesh, and thus the works of Satan. The Church of today has reversed this order and moved away from God’s perfect will.…/Imminent-End-of-the-World.…?
